I like quizzes. What about you?

Well, actually, I don’t like pop quizzes. I feel my kids’ pain when they talk about those—something clearly along the lines of feeling crushed by books:

(Honestly, I still get stress dreams about taking exams.)
Nevertheless, I’ve often enjoyed quizzes. These are the kind of questionnaires that come with glossy magazines. Nowadays, we can take fun tests online. Caveat: I once shared a link to a free personality quiz and forgot to explain the fine details—one friend wrote back, having accidentally signed up for matchmaking services instead of clicking on the “free version” button. Whoops.
But I promise that these three quizzes below from Book Riot have been vetted and are nothing but bookish joy (and I’m honored that my books are mentioned in them). Feel free to take the quizzes and report back your score!
Quiz: Can You Match the Mystery Novel to its Opening Line?
Cookout Quiz for Foodie Fiction
Book Riot soothing quiz
What’s a quiz you’ve enjoyed? or What kind of quiz would you make for fun?

I love quizzes–liked them even in school–but don’t tend to take the online ones, for fear of corrupting my computer with nasty viruses. Nice to see you and your books featured so prominently in these quizzes, though! Yay you!

Leslie, you’re such a stellar student! And thanks!
P.S. I had a friend who went to law school and hated the Socratic method there.

Ugh–I hated the Socratic method, too!

Pop quizzes are fun, but like Leslie, I tend to avoid the online ones.
But I did try the 3 quizzes you posted and I am a Mia M & Abby C fan.
I also matched all the opening lines, except one.

I enjoyed the quizzes that would sort you into your Hogwarts house. I’m a Hufflepuff and proud of it!

My kids were so into that, JC. And I could totally see you as a Hufflepuff.

I take the NPR weekly quiz most weeks. I was abysmal today. 4/11.

We should give wordpress a pop quiz!
I leave the online quizzes to others. My daily life has more than enough questions and choices most days!

Right? Yikes, WP. Let’s do a different question. What about: “How smooth can we make the commenting process?”

And I have a lot of questioning my choices in daily life, too. 😉

I love quizzes and am so often tempted to take those online ones! But super afraid of the consequences. But these are fun! Hmmm… I wonder how I can create one to entertain my newsletter readers?

You should totally do it, El. Not only can you have puzzles for readers to solve but quizzes as well!

I’m usually wary of quizzes (especially on FB), but…sometimes I make exceptions, ha. I must report that I flunked most of the first lines–not yours, of course, Jen–and got some unexpected results from the others. But I can’t help wondering…Did I give the right answers? Did I mess up? The longer I look at any quiz question, the better I can come up with reasons for other answers. (Ask me how well I do on standardized tests. No, please don’t.)

Thanks for getting mine right, Lisa! 🙂 My older kid’s advice? Never second-guess your answer on a test.

I had to take the first line quiz, and I must have done well based on their reaction. (Didn’t see a score, but maybe I missed something.) I was mostly guessing since I’d only read two of the books included (one of which didn’t have their first line included, the other did).

I don’t think there’s a grade–just a hurrah note at the end. Not surprised that you would do well, though, Mark!

I loooooooove Buzzfeed quizzes that ask important questions like which Pink Lady I am, or if I were a sandwich, would I be made with rye. I think they’re hilarious and fun.
Love seeing you featured, Jen!! I also took the soothing quiz and very much enjoyed it. (I’m waiting for my doughnuts and puppy.)

Don’t we all need soothing nowadays? And now I’m curious which Pink Lady I would be…

Vickie: This was fun, Jen! Maybe we could come up with a Chicks on the Case quiz! Professor Kuhn could hand out the grades 🙂
Pop quizzes helped out my grade average in college!
