Chicks Celebration: Launch of “MOLTEN DEATH”!

Welcome to “Chicks Celebration,” our fun new Chicks on the Case feature! Join us as we Chicks share what we’re currently celebrating (book release, new idea, recent read…).

1. Which Chick is celebrating? Leslie

2. The reason for the celebration? The launch of the first book in my new Orchid Isle mystery series, Molten Death, which releases this coming Tuesday, April 2. (Buy link here.)

3. What have you been doing to celebrate? As always, I’ve been doing a blog tour with Great Escapes Book Tours, organized by the fabulous Lori at Escape with Dollycas.

I also guest blogged yesterday with the Jungle Red Writers and today with the Wickeds, and last Sunday the “spotlight” was on me over at the marvelous Mystery Lovers’ Kitchen. On my release day, April 2, my protagonist Valerie Corbin will be talking about a day in her life on Dru’s Book Musings, and on April 16 I’ll be featured on Cinnamon, Sugar, and a Little Bit of Murder along with a yummy recipe from Molten Death.

If you’d like to hang out with me on Facebook/Zoom, I’ll be doing a video chat with Cozies, Conversations and More on April 16 at 7:30 pm ET, and I’ll be doing an Author Takeover with the Cozy Mystery Party Facebook Group on April 22 at 7:00 pm ET.

In addition, I have a couple bookstore appearances coming up: At Elliott Bay Book Co. in Seattle, WA, on April 10 at 7:00 pm (the night before Left Coast Crime begins) and at Bookshop Santa Cruz in Santa Cruz, CA, on May 9 at 7:00 pm.

4. How are you feeling right now? A little nervous, frankly, because this book I’ve been working on for several years now will finally see the light of day next Tuesday—my baby will be out in the world all on its own! (But I’m also ready to celebrate with some tropical cocktails!)

5. Any stories to share? I’m blown away by the generosity of the amazing mystery authors who provided praise for the new book. Here’s a sampling:

“In Molten Death, Leslie Karst takes a suspenseful dive into the Hawai‘i tourists don’t see, introducing engaging protagonist Valerie Corbin and the fascinating, quirky island community she learns to love. And of course there is delicious food! This is a terrific debut to a series that will go on my must read list!”

Deborah Crombie, New York Times bestselling author of A Killing of Innocents

“As mysterious as a Hilo rain, fragrant as lychee, melodious as Hawaiian pidgin, and tasty as loco moco, Leslie Karst’s Molten Death transports the reader to the best that the Big Island can offer. You won’t want to leave!”

Naomi Hirahara, USA Today bestselling and Mary Higgins Clark award-winning author of Clark and Division and Iced in Paradise

“In Molten Death, Leslie Karst’s passion and personal connection to Hawai‘i shine on every page. She’s created a heroine you’ll adore and a mystery that’s both touching and twisty. I loved it!”

Ellen Byron, USA Today bestselling author

“With its compelling characters and engaging look at the culture and customs of the Big Island of Hawai‘i, Molten Death is a delightfully immersive whodunnit. Fans of well-plotted, suspenseful mysteries with a foodie element will eat this one up!”

Kate Carlisle, New York Times bestselling author of the Bibliophile and Fixer-Upper mysteries

  1. Yay, Leslie! Congrats!! Ooh, we should have a LCC Chicks outing to the bookstore in Seattle.

Inquiring minds (read: mine) want to know what kind of bonus material is in the back. Will there be a recipe for molten lava cake…and more?

  3. Dearest Leslie, cannot wait for Molten Death to be officially out in the world. Just a few more sleeps…Huge congrats, with more to come! I would like to know, did you get a diploma from the American Bartenders School as well as your top culinary cert? Your drink photos are always to die for. What would you suggest for non-tropical NH, sigh? I can’t take another craft beer. (Just kididng. I can.)

    1. No official bartending diploma, alas–I just learn as I go (and drink)! When it’s cold (it’s 50 degrees with cold wind and rain right now here in Santa Cruz), I tend to opt for drinks such as bourbon-rocks or a Martini. Warms yer bones!

  4. Congrats on the new book and I can’t wait to read it. I just finished your latest Sally Solari book and loved it. You may have said this, but I have forgotten or did not see it, do you have a house in Hawaii and how long have you been going there? I have never been and would love to go one day.
