I’m not big on ghouls and goblins, but for some reason, when this season comes around, I always fall for the pumpkin marketing.

I blame it on my friend Lisa (not our Chicks Lisa), who taught me how to make pumpkin bread in elementary school. Mmm. Ever since then, I have a soft spot for all things pumpkin-y. My seasonal decadent indulgence is a slice of pumpkin pie or pumpkin cheesecake.
In the meantime, I’ve already baked a loaf of pumpkin bread, and I just finished a batch of pumpkin snickerdoodle cookies today.

I’m not a coffee fan, so I’ve skipped all the pumpkin spice latte hype. But I’m into pumpkin tea:

Other tried-and-true treats in the past have been seasoned, roasted pumpkin seeds, along with pumpkin pound cake. On my currently-craving list are pumpkin bagels (including the pull-apart one from Einstein Bros. or the cute pumpkin-shaped bagels a la The Bagel Nook).
Are you falling for any treats around this time of the year?

While I enjoy a slice of pumpkin bread or a pumpkin muffin, I am more of a apple treat kind of girl. From apple pie to apple crisp to apple slices dipped in hot caramel sauce and I could go on! Anyway you make it, fall is my favorite season!
Apples are great! One of my favorite fall activities is apple picking! (It’s not as neat as the orchards out east, but you can still find a few spots around here.)
I love fall too! The smells! The colors! The sports! Ha!
I’m a pumpkin spice guy. Not lattes because I don’t like coffee either. But I guy so much pumpkin stuff at Trader Joe’s each year, I’m surprised I don’t turn orange. I was so disappointed they were out of pumpkin frozen waffles this last week. I hope it was just temporary and they aren’t gone for the season already.
Haha about the orange comment, Mark! I haven’t tried the pumpkin waffles yet. Hmmm, let me take a quick trip…
Pumpkin waffles? Thanks, Mark–and Jen, wait for me!
TJ trip together!
Not a fan of pumpkin spice, but I do love pumpkins as a savory food. Roasted or sautéed with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar (and some melted butter helps, too), they’re delicious!
As for treats, I have to admit I can’t resist dipping into the bag of mini chocolate bars we have in preparation for Halloween…
I love pumpkins as savory foods as well. I really like kabochas!
As for treats, we often stock our household with candies we enjoy…
Yes, re: the treat stocking. You know, just in case we get tons of trick o’ treaters. (Since we moved to NH 18 years ago, we haven’t had a one.)
We’ve been getting fewer trick o’ treaters over the years…
I love pumpkin spice stuff from muffins to bread to Cheerios to Special K to… I don’t drink coffee so pumpkin lattes are out, but I do buy Califia pumpkin spice almond creamer and stick it in my almond milk on occasion.
Great idea with the almond milk! And I didn’t know Special K had seasonal flavors…
Jennifer, I’ve got four words for you: Brach’s Halloween Autumn Mix. Oh, my goodness! I’m so weak! I almost went into a sugar coma last week after practically chugging the bag. Why do I do this to myself every year? Weak!
Ooh, I need to look this up!
Give me all the Halloween candy! My sweet tooth thanks you. 🎃
J.C., Ha! We should go shopping together. LOL!
Ha! Gotta save some of that candy for you!
Jen, love all these pumpkin options! (The tea, wow–who knew?) I am very lucky, because my hubby bakes 16 loaves of pumpkin bread at a time (yup, from the shell, which means all the scooping and eighth-ing onto baking sheets and blender-ing). We give some as gifts and to family and the rest lasts us up to about 4th of July. Then it’s time for pumpkin whoopie pies (plenty of pumpkin puree bags in the freezer ha). Bake and repeat (and remember to thank the Great Pumpkin).
Lisa – Wow! Your husband is quite the talented pumpkin bread maker. And from the pumpkin shell or “from scratch” as I call it. That’s a lot of work. I’m impressed!
Sixteen loaves?!! I think I baked one pumpkin pie from fresh pumpkin and then gave up ever after…
Hurrah, pumpkin whoopie pies! And the Great Pumpkin film is so fun!
I do like a good pumpkin spice loaf or pumpkin-spice cheesecake. But apple cider is really the thing that’s hard for me to resist. Hot and spiced on a cold day? Sign me up!
Mmm, apple cider. We once made it from freshly picked apples–so good!
Jen – I’m a big fan of pumpkin pie. With lots of whip cream on top, of course. What would Thanksgiving dinner be without it?
This week I tried a pumpkin scone for the first time at a local coffee shop. Delicious! And a dear friend dropped off a pumpkin and chocolate chip mini-loaf this morning. It too was yummy.
I’m in pumpkin heaven right now. And with this being the start of pumpkin season, it’s only going to get better from here.
I’m a big fan of pumpkin pie with whipped cream. Although I know others prefer ice cream or plain. And I used to add chocolate chips to my pumpkin muffins as well.
Happy pumpkin season!
Those snickerdoodles look soooo good.
I’m kind of over everything pumpkin. But on the other hand, I do love a pumpkin-y treat. Sadly, I hate coffee, so I miss out on all the latte stuff.
I’m really looking forward to the gingerbread focus at the holidays. Gingerbread is my jam! With or without jam.
Ah, yes, gingerbread! I really enjoy Swedish gingerbread snaps!
I am learning about so many pumpkin things that I never knew about before!
Not related to the holiday but we had pumpkin soup every day of our honeymoon. Had never had it before and never had it again, but it was delicious.
Ah, so sweet! I can’t remember when I last had pumpkin soup, but it was really delicious!
So true! We still talk about it!
