An Inside Peek Into My Dinner With Ruth

Most of you likely know by now that I had the good fortune to host an intimate dinner party for the iconic Ruth Bader Ginsburg, an event now chronicled in my new memoir, Justice is Served: A Tale of Scallops, the Law, and Cooking for RBG.

Well, you readers of the Chicks on the Case blog are in for a treat today, as I’m about to reveal some previously unseen photos from the night of the big dinner! (I apologize in advance for the quality of some of them—it was dark, and as this was back in 2006, my point-and-shoot camera was not of the caliber we now expect from high-tech iPhones. And some may seem a bit blurry, which is no doubt due to the amount of wine we consumed over the evening….)

Here, to start us off, is my (now) wife, Robin, pouring the Storrs Christie Chardonnay I paired with the first two courses, much to the glee of RBG.

And here’s a shot of the Seared Sea Scallop with Ginger-Lime Cream Sauce that was the first course of the menu. (Yes, the recipe for the scallops—as well the other dishes I prepared—are included in the book!)

Serving dessert to my father as Ruth patiently awaits taking her first bite.

With the marvelous, dapper, sweet, and witty Marty Ginsburg, after the meal was over.

You can tell from this one—with my mom, at right, looking on with amusement—how silly we became after all that wine.

And finally, the aftermath of the dinner, with Dad getting ready to clear the table.

It was truly a special night. And now I’m jonesing for one of those scallops. Maybe I’ll make them for dinner tonight….

Justice is Served: A Tale of Scallops, the Law, and Cooking for RBG is now available for purchase, if you’d like to learn the whole story of this fabulous dinner!
