Photographic Evidence

Left Coast Crime 2025 (Rocky Mountain High Jinks) was wonderful.

We celebrated the guests of honor (Sara Paretsky and Manuel Ramos), fan of honor (Grace Koshida) and toastmaster (John Copenhaver).

We cheered for our Lefty Award-nominated Chicks–Ellen Byron, Jennifer Chow, and Leslie Karst–and other friend nominees.

We went to panels/interviews and learned about craft, process, and trends; we participated in such conversations ourselves; we went to a fabulous carnival hosted by Sisters in Crime-Colorado; and we connected with cherished colleagues both old and new. In short, we talked and talked and talked.

Suffice it to say that we were delighted to spend time with beloved reader and writer friends (we deeply missed absent beloveds too of course).

Sidenote: another author and I were eating breakfast at a row of two-seaters. People with conference badges were surrounding us on every side. A couple at the next table asked the name of the conference. “Left Coast Crime,” we told them. They nodded slowly, then one said: “Wait, there’s a whole conference for planning crimes on the left coast?” 😀 (First we said yes, just for fun.)

Anyway, it is an extremely wordy weekend so rather than writing up a longwinded review, here are a few Chicks-related highlights, picture-style!

Many thanks to everyone who was involved in the planning/designing/manifesting of everything LCC-related…and thanks to everyone who hung out with us! Cannot wait until next year. Hope to see you all in San Francisco, where our very own Leslie Karst will be Toastmaster!!! 🎉

Dear Readers: What is the most fun thing you’ve done on a recent vacation?

  1. Thanks Cynthia and the rest of the Chicks for making Denver Left Coast Crime a most memorable mystery convention. Yes, I was busy as Fan GOH but am so glad I got to get into plenty of fun & hi-jinks with you at the Thursday author-reader connection and the Friday Mystery Merge Fiesta Carnival games. And I happily got to chat during meals with Ellen & Cynthia.

Hope to see you all again at SF LCC in 2026!!! xxxx

      1. Leslie, you were VERY BUSY at Denver LCC. Thanks for doing a fabulous job as my Fan GOH interviewer + auctioneer + final GOH panel moderator. It was Toastmaster-in-training for your time to shine at San Francisco LCC 2026!

    1. Grace, it was fantastic to hang out with you. What a terrific guest of honor you were! (Both your interview and your banquet speech were top notch, and I know I’m not the only one who got a bit teary about the latter.) You are the coolest. ❤

  2. What fabulous photos! Thanks for sharing. When Nancy and I went to Austin, TX last year, we visited the Moody Theater, where they film PBS’s Austin City Limits. The music, the history, the stories…what a fun experience it was.

  3. Cynthia, thanks for the fun recap! I’m ready to hop on the next plane back to Denver. (Well…based on my return flight through that lovely storm, maybe I’ll hop the rails, lol. But thank you for offering to rescue me if needed.) One of my things at LCC, other than the above? Hanging out with you for coffee, convos, and “writing”!
