Cozy readers—and especially Chicks on the Case readers—are some of the most creative folks on the planet, so we’re asking you to play Chick Pic with us! Give us a couple of sentences: Who is this character? What’s their back story? Victim, murderer, nosy neighbor, innocent suspect? The more ridiculous the better! Each comment can build on the next until we have a fully-fleshed out character. Or if you don’t like the direction the comment thread is going, start a new one. Writing is all about rewriting, after all. Let’s have some wacky creative fun!

This guy looks pretty shady. Or dubious, at best. Place your thread in the comments below!

“I don’t know, Lenny. Is money supposed to be that color? It’s a funny shade of green.”

I still don’t see why Grandma didn’t think this was a good idea, setting up this lucrative business on her property. Where is Grandma, anyway?

I placed my hand on my hip. “Huh, where could Grandma be? Is she still in the woods?” I didn’t tell Lenny how I’d made sure Grandma had liberally sprayed herself with Off! repellent before she left. Now I just needed to get rid of the tampered can…

But not only was Grandma missing, but so was the bug spray. I wandered over to trash can along the side of the house and peeked inside: was it there?
No. But what was that fuzzy pink cloth doing in there? Lifting it out, I suppressed a gasp. Wasn’t this the sweater that Grandma had knitted for my mom–the daughter-in-law she’d never forgiven for marrying her only son? And was that BLOOD on the sleeve?

All I can think is he isn’t that impressed by the cash. Not sure how that fits into the story you are coming up with or any other story for that matter.

He wants more, Mark!

I’ll make it fit, Mark!
The expression on the dude’s face told me that despite his bluster, he wasn’t impressed by the cash haul. He was an arrogant guy who always thought he could do better than anyone else. Setting him up for the murder of our ringleader, Grandma, was perfect. Everything would think HE was the killer behind the tampered can of OFF.

He knew the perfect way to OFF someone. He just didn’t know it could be so lucrative.

Ha, Kathy! That’s great. The best part is that Off! has an exclamation point. Sounds like an awesome book title: OFFED!

I’d buy that book!

Derek’s little venture was paying off. Apparently, a lot of people had been intrigued by the notice he posted – “Secrets Told $20, Secrets Kept $100.” He just didn’t understand why Grandma had been so against it.
