Scrolling around on my phone, I suddenly realized I have a birthday coming up very soon. Since I’m at an age that I don’t celebrate birthdays anymore, it’s not a big deal. The only reason it is a SEMI big deal is that it reminds me that my mom’s birthday is coming up kind of soon.
She’s someone that I do still celebrate birthdays for. She’s inching much closer to ninety than I had remembered. Not close enough that we’ll be putting 90 on her cake this year. Nope.
I do always buy her a gift for her birthday. No ideas yet. Feel free to chime in if you have ideas for a lady close to ninety years old; I don’t have any fresh ideas for her.

I just started looking around for ideas in women’s wear. You never know what might pop up. Actually what popped up was robes on sale. Unfortunately, my mom doesn’t need a robe. She already has a couple of nice ones. I could really, really use a robe, but I’m not shopping for myself.
My sister’s birthday comes up soon after my mom’s birthday. I guess I could shop for her. That would put me ahead of schedule on something for a change. It’s getting late and I don’t need to sit up past bedtime shopping for my mom’s birthday next month, or my sister’s birthday after that. I could jump online and order some groceries from Walmart, I suppose.
I’m sorry for getting carried away thinking about my mom’s not-too distant birthday. Wait… she was born on a Sunday. I could probably find pajamas with that written on them. Maybe in pink? Never mind, I’ll think about that tomorrow. And my nephew’s birthday is a couple of days after my mom’s. I should go ahead a get a card for him while I’m at it.
If I happen to find a robe I like, I’ll just stick it on my Amazon Christmas gift list. If my husband or sister are looking for ideas, they might look there just in case. I can’t believe I’m thinking about my own non-remarkable year birthday. My mom has probably already bought me a birthday card. I’m sure she has. If I email her and ask about her birthday, she’d tell me she doesn’t need anything. Then, she’ll ask me what I want for my birthday.
Do you sit around before bed thinking about random things? Let me know in the comments. If you have an idea for my mom’s birthday, please list that too!

Are there people who DON’T lie around at night thinking of random things. lol?
My mom loved food (that’s where I get it from), so I always either sent her something delicious for her birthday or cooked her something special.

And the worst thing that runs in my head is my to-do list! So I always try to write it down instead of repeating it over and over and ruining my sleep.

Jennifer, same! I fret over my phone calendar every night before bed. What have I gotten done today? What do I need to move from today to tomorrow? What do I have to get done tomorrow? Ha!

If I’m lucky, I think about my work in progress and scribble some notes for that!

Bed time is random thought time. I thought everyone knew this.
And I’ve really got to get a Mother’s Day card, don’t I? How is that only two weeks away?

Happy Mother’s Day to your mom, Mark! And to my mom, too, That’s another card I’ve got to buy!

When my mom had a milestone year, I did one of those multi-gift presents; a little one for each decade of her life. I also made my dad a photo book once filled with old pictures and sayings from people in his life. Sounds like you’ve got a lot of birthdays coming up, Vickie–happy celebrating in advance!

Jen, my mother is hard to buy for. She sometimes hints about an item. But, if she sees it on sale a day or two before her birthday, she’ll buy it for herself! Ugh! This means I’ve bought the perfect gift (exactly what she wanted) and still have to return it!

How about a lovely selection of scented lotions? My mom always liked that. I also found that she was thrilled with just having me take her out for a nice lunch or dinner. If it were me, I’d say a new book is always welcome! Good luck!

Unfortunately, my mom isn’t much of a reader! If I lived closed enough to take her out for a meal that would be perfect. Maybe I’ll give her some gift cards to take her friends out for lunch!

Oh I love the idea of the gift cards. Bet her friends would too!

my MIL doesn’t cook much more than microwave tv dinners. She uses her oven for food storage!
a couple of years ago I got her recipe card box for Christmas. It took like 5 minutes and the whole family yelling at her to open the box before she did. I’d placed $250 of cards in there to her favorite restaurants. Mexican, sandwiches, steak, etc. and of course I put the McDonalds cards in a tab called crap.
I don’t know your mother’s mobility or faculties, so don’t take offense to my suggestions. Does she collect kitschy type stuff? Photos in a box could be gathered into an album? What about a souvenir from her favorite place she ever visited? A time capsule containing her 10 top memories she always talks about? A beautiful silk flower arrangement for her table or dresser? What about a mini recorder so she could record her stories for the next generation?
if I have more deets, I could come up with something fab.

Hestia, did you get some good photos at Malice this year? I would have loved to have gone, but wasn’t able.

I do think of random things. At night, while waiting for water to boil for tea, just staring into space.
Happy birthday to your mom!

Vickie, happy birthday to your mom! I love the idea of gift cards she could use to invite her friends for lunch to help celebrate her birthday. That’s such a generous gift. Since it sounds as though she lives a distance from you, would it be possible to arrange a video conference chat with her? That might be a nice way to spend time with her long distance.

Sorry I’m late to the party, Vickie–I’m still on the road home from Malice! Good luck with all those birthdays, lol. And I don’t think about things I need to do after I go to bed–I think of them AFTER I’ve gone to bed and woken up, sigh.

Vickie, is your mom the high society type? Would a gift card for her and a friend to a tea shop (one that serves high tea) and where they’d have to dress to the nines, hats/gloves included, appeal to her?
