Hi, Ellen here with a fun, flirty topic for today’s Chick Chat. This evening, I’m going to a screening of the new comedy, Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass. For those who haven’t been joking about this concept for years like my husband and me, a celebrity sex pass – also known as a free pass or hall pass – is basically permission from your significant other to have a romantic rendezvous with a famous person, with you granting them equal permission to canoodle with their celeb of choice.
This got me thinking… who would the Chicks anoint as their celebrity passes? Even if it’s just for a tame but romantic dinner under the stars?
Lisa Q. Mathews

Well, I don’t actually have a “pass.” But I have always been a huge fan of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Once they held a contest to have dinner with them in LA for charity, and I’ll admit I would have loved to go. I’m a sucker for nice guys with brains and a great sense of humor (if they happen to be good looking, too, well…). I’d also definitely be up for a fun girls night out with Jennifer Garner, Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Aniston, Cameron Diaz, Kristen Bell and Kate Hudson. It sounds like the plot of a new Netflix movie–what could possibly go wrong?
Ellen Byron

My pass is the brilliant rock musician Jack White. This generally comes as a surprise to anyone who knows me. Disco queen that I am, you’d think my choice would be a Village Person. But I’ve loved Jack White ever since he was a White Stripe. The opening notes of “Seven Nation Army” never fail to make my heart race and knees weak.
I also have a girl crush on Brandi Carlile. Every time I watch her perform on a TV gig, you can practically see cartoon hearts and songbirds circling around me as I stare at the screen transfixed.
Marla Cooper

I was trying to think who mine would be, and my first thought was Jason Sudekis — mostly because he’s the celebrity who’s the most similar to my husband, both in terms of looks and humor. (Yay! I have a type!) Then, I was like, “Wait, does that mean my husband’s hall pass would be Olivia Wilde? Does that make me Olivia Wilde?!” (Ha ha ha ha. No.) Then I found out they broke up, and I was like, “Hmm, he’s single…” Anyway, I just texted my husband to ask him who my celebrity hall pass would be. Two-word reply: “Jason Sudekis.”
Cynthia Kuhn
For my celebrity pass dinner date (to hang out and laugh), there’s no question: I choose Paul Rudd. He’s so talented, likable, and funny in every film and tv show that he’s in. Love the way he commits fully to the humor, always with a little mischievous glint in his eye. Plus, his lip sync performances of Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now” and You Spin Me Round are top notch.
Leslie Karst

I had a raging crush on Martina Navratilova back in the early ’80s, and having just watched the new documentary about her and Chrissie Evert, I realize it was a good pick, as it showed her to have a real heart of gold.
But I’ve also had crushes over the years on Sophia Loren, Myrna Loy, and Barbara Stanwyck. Not to mention (to give equal access to both sexes) George Clooney, Marcello Mastroianni, and Ryan Reynolds. So dinner with any–or all–of them would be fun indeed!
Patricia Sargeant

I would have loved to have had coffee with Sidney Poitier. Intelligent, interesting, funny, talented, and ambitious. He was committed to the Civil Rights Movement. He was a current events junkie as well as being knowledgeable about history. I’ve seen interviews with him, and he’s just so interesting. I would’ve sat there with my large coffee and chocolate-chip cookie as big as my head, and peppered him with questions.
Jennifer Chow

My pass would definitely only be for dinner… I’ve always had a penchant for cute actors with UK accents. I was a sucker for James McAvoy in Becoming Jane (about Jane Austen). And I really liked Henry Golding in Crazy Rich Asians. Happy dream dining, everyone!
Readers, who’s your celeb pass? Do tell!

All the celebrity pass I would want are dead: Luther Vandross and Prince. I want to see how freaky Prince is. If I have to pick a person who is still living, then it would be Denzel Washington, but I don’t think Pauletta would let him go.

Dru Ann! I would have loved to have sung a duet with Luther. I can’t sing on key to save my life, but I had big dreams. Ha!

LOL, Dru! I think you’re right about Pauletta. I bet she keeps that hottie husband of hers on a tight leash!

I really admire Denzel Washington, especially when I read more about his background and kind character.

I mean, pretty freaky, surely. 😄

Prince! So great. Random memory: pooling our money several times in college to rent Purple Rain + the VHS machine…remember when you had to rent one along with your movies because nobody owned their own VHS player yet?

Hestia here.
Ellen, this is the perfect post for me. I’ve always had a celeb pass. Seriously, like for 30 years. And it’s never changed. AND the hubbs knows, and he wouldn’t stop it.
my pass is the one and only Bruce Willis. He’s cute in both casual and a tux. Great sense of humor. Had a great head of hair, and his cranium can pull off the sexy bald look as well. Loves kids and adventures. He acts and sings, he’s not bad at either, and he likes the same kind of music I do.
Even in his current state, he’d still be my choice.
Women? Hmm. Probably Susan Sarandon or Sandra Bullock.

Bruce was a bartender at a hangout down the street from me on the Upper Westside before he got Moonlighting!

Can I dial this back a few years? For both me AND the pass guy? Ben Afflectk for sure then. Or maybe Rami Malek. OH NO, scratch all that, Cillian Murphy! I could sit and gaze at those last two gorgeous faces for hours. I’ll quit before I think of someone else. For a gal pal? Jennifer Garner, maybe, or if we’re going back Sophia Loren or Audrey Hepburn.

Although I’m old enough to be his mom (which makes it creepy), my longtime crush has been Robert Downey, Jr. So handsome, so funny, so talented, and he rose from the ashes to not only shine as an actor, but find his great love. Sigh…

Can I just say that I still sob like a child over the Avengers? And can you believe that so many of his Avengers’s lines were ad lib? Genius.

Robin, Daniel Craig is definitely eye candy for me and I love him as 007!
But, for the record I’m a forever X-Files groupie. I’d always go for (At least a dinner date) with David Duchovny, aka Fox Mulder. And if we’re mixing in gal pals, I’d double date with Gillian Anderson, aka Dana Scully!

What a fun topic! So many good choices have been shared. My choice, for dinner only, is well known to my husband. Either George Clooney or Brad Pitt. They both still make me swoon. It is so unfair how well that they have both aged lol.

I’ve had a total celebrity crush on rocker Grace Potter for ages. She was my muse for my North Star Trilogy when I first started writing. Michelle Obama is amazing, too, though I freely admit I’d be too tongue tied to actually talk to her. 😂

Of COURSE you can! I’m going to go old school and add Tyrone Power, Gene Kelly, and Tommy Rall.

A lot of good choices that you all have made. Kris Kristofferson (he and I were both born in Brownsville, Texas) and Robert Downey Jr. were two of my favorites as a young woman. “Ally McBeal” had so many good partners like Robert Downey Jr. and Bon Jovi. My choices have changed over the years. As a child, it was Randolph Scott and Joel McCrea. Then Russ Tamblyn as Riff in “West Side Story.” Sean Connery (“Darby O’Gill and the Little People” before he was 007 and Steve McQueen in “Bullitt. But now it is Ryan Gosling, Keanu Reeves and Mark Wahlberg. An older gentleman that I loved was William Powell.

You read my mind from yesterday when I was thinking about Russ Tamblyn! I went to the 50th anniversary of the movie, The Haunting, and he was interviewed. LOVE him.
