Her new series is set in the world of grilled cheese sandwiches, which is as ingenious as it is mouth-watering. I’m a huge grilled cheese fan and so is my character Charlee Russo in my Mystery Writer’s series. I should figure out a way to … Continue reading Guest Chick: Linda Reilly

Writing books has allowed me to meet so many fabulous readers. I love getting the chance to speak to them about my books. When I wrote for kids, back in the Mesozoic Period, I used to laugh at their funny and guileless questions. Are you rich? Did your mom help you? Do you really know all those words? When I transitioned to writing for adults, … Continue reading Oh, The Questions I Get
Kathleen here. I’m so delighted to welcome author Susan McCormick to the coop. She recently launched THE FOG LADIES: IN THE SOUP, the third book in her Fog Ladies cozy mystery series. Fittingly, she’s here to talk about the sweet spot between mysteries and poultry: Easter eggs (the hidden message variety). Take it away, Susan! I love Easter eggs. Light blue eggs with delicate shells, … Continue reading Medical Easter Eggs
Here in Hilo, a group of my fellow mystery authors have formed a group called MAHI (Mystery Authors of Hawai‘i Island), which meets once a month to chat about our works-in-progress, publishing woes, good and bad restaurants we’ve tried, and a host of other fun topics. Last week, I had lunch out with two of my fellow MAHI members, Jane Lasswell Hoff (author of Bones … Continue reading Lock Pick Chick

The late great legend Betty White once said that, in her day, “seeing pictures of people’s vacations was considered a punishment.” (She was referring to Facebook.) Well, dang. One cannot argue with Betty White. But if it’s okay, I thought I’d share a few random photos (with authorly commentary) from my incredible adventure last month in Cartagena, Colombia. Continue reading Notes from Cartagena: Blooper Reel
Ah, 2021. It was the worst of times. And the worst of times. But The Year That Must Not Be Named did usher in a number of lessons for me, some of the cosmic variety, some simply to be filed away under Huh…Who Knew? Here, then, in no particular order, are a few things I learned in 2021: Never, ever declare “THIS is going to … Continue reading Things I learned in 2021
Becky, here. I’m so happy to have Vicki Delany visit us at Chicks. Vicki moderated the very first panel I was ever on at Left Coast Crime. The start of a new year is typically a time to make resolutions and plans. My resolutions are more like wish lists, because if I were truly resolved I’d be thin and have an immaculate and organized home by now. I started last year with a very definite plan and even followed through on my part. But, best laid plans…yada yada. I planned to have … Continue reading Out with the old, in with the new hip — and accepting progress over perfection
